Surprisingly, it was fun

Writing a 10 page paper is not easy, but writing a 10 page paper on something that you feel strongly about is a bit easier.  My issue's paper I wrote on the effects of teens from playing violent video games.  It really touched home for me because i have a brother that plays video games constantly back and home and my entire family can tell that he has changed a little bit personality wise.  He used to be this fun, loving kid but now he becomes aggressive easily.  Due to all the studies that have been done, it is proven that video games cause aggression with youth.  I looked up a lot of studies that proved this.  I also looked up the positive effects of video games if played the right way.  Don't get me wrong, I love video games.  I just think people need to take precaution on the time they play.  I liked this issue's paper and how it opened my eyes to new information that I didn't know anymore.  Thanks Chris!!

Woot Woot Issue's Paper!

Okay, so can I just say how excited I am for this issues paper?!  Yes, I know that it's got to be almost 10 pages but I guess the reason is because I am excited for my topic.  I was really confused on what to write my topic on until Chris brought up Zombies.  Now Connor has dibs on the whole "zombie apocalypse"  thing but I also wanted to focus on Zombies... kinda. haha What my topic will be on is How Violent Video Games affect Aggression in Human Beings.  The reason this ties into zombies is because I am a fan of Call of Duty and I'm amazing at Nazi Zombies (yes, I am very proud of that fact).  I recently went to a seminar by a guy who talked about this so I have many stats and new studies on it.  I'm going to be talking a lot on how it causes violence in men, and why not women.  I'll also be talking about what else happens when people play violent video games compared to non-violent ones.  I also have many personal stories.  Basically, I am very excited to write about this. Finally, I can prove to my brother that being addicted to video games is not a good thing.  Let me know what you think!

Diction, Tone and Figurative Language

Wangari uses the tone of her voice and writing to put things across.  She wrote her Nobel Peace Prize speech for that moment, and uses language that she knows will affect people at the moment.  Her speech probably wouldn't be as great if she were to just say it at any time but the way she says it is perfect.  She uses a lot of imagery and allusions to show people how she feels about this.  She has a way to make you believe what she is saying is true.  That to me, is a correct rhetorical analysis.

Nobel Piece Prize Thesis

People in Africa need to start becoming more independent instead of being dependent on other Nations.  Also, the women in Africa need better economic situations of Women.  One women giving a Nobel Peace Prize is not enough, more people need to join and help.

Audience and Context Worksheet

For our blog post tonight we are supposed to write on what articles we are reading in the Globalization book.  Ironically, the article that I am doing was the one we analyzed today.  I promise I didn't copy ;)
So the article's title that I am looking into is called The Nobel Peace Prize Acceptance Speech.  It is about the first African lady to be awarded the Nobel peace prize.  She got it because she wanted to improve the economic situation for women in Africa.  She lives in Kenya, Africa and she did this in response to the depletion of environmental resources in her area like trees, water, etc.  I am proud of her for doing this in response to her concern for her country.  A few setbacks could be money problems, and also that the African nation is becoming too dependent on other nations.  I am proud of her because she is making a difference.  He Audience is everyone.  Her people.  The government.  Americans.  Anyone and anybody that would like to help her.  I look up to her.

Overview of Opinion Editorial

I thought the opinion editorial was fantastic!  Now, I'm usually not this excited on essays (usually I dread them) but I actually enjoyed this one.  It was a good way for us as students to say our opinion and not feel like we were hurting anyone's feelings.  It really helped me because my topic was something that I've been thinking about for a long time and have not been able to have the courage to say anything about.  This essay helped me get out my feelings and write what I feel strong about.  It kinda seems like a journal to me. :)  Overall,  I really enjoyed the opinion editorial assignment!

Good Ol' peer reviews

Today we got to have a peer review our opinion editorial.  I cannot say how thankful I am for that review. When I write, I say a lot of things that don't make sense so it's good for someone to tell me I am wrong.  Ashlyn did  a fantastic job editing my paper.  She told me things that would make my paper better and what things to take out that weren't that great.  When you read your own papers,  I don't think you can edit them very well because you are used to your own sayings.  When you have someone else edit although, you get help on what outsiders think you should say.  I liked peer reviews and I would definitely want to do them with every paper.

Opinion Editorial Decision

So this post is basically just solidifying my last post.  For my opinion editorial I would like to talk on Utah.  Not just the geography, history, or topography of it, but on Utah as a whole.  I've lived in Utah my whole life and I love it here.  I love attending BYU because it is fun to ask where people are from.  Everyone is dedicated to their own state.  Its fun to hear how people brag about their own state.  The one problem that I've noticed is that people don't like Utah.  Whether it is the cold, the altitude, the people or anything else, it seems like the overall students at BYU are not fans of Utah.  This is fine, considering people love their own state.  But I'd like people to be more considerate of those of us who live and love it here.  The first few comments that bash Utah are not that bad and we can take it, but after about 10 a day, 7 times a week, it kind of hurts.  I hope in this editorial I don't offend anyone either.  If so, let me know! :)

I love Utah

I am from Utah.  I love Utah. I would probably like to live in Utah someday in the future.  As you can tell, I am a die-hard Utah fan, (not the Utah Utes, but the state Utah ;)).  Chris asked us to post a second time and tell an idea on what we may want to write on in our opinion editorials.  I'm not sure what I would like to do quite yet but I think I have an idea.  I would like to emphasize to BYU students that growing up in Utah is not that bad.  I love all the people here at BYU but I am surprised how many of them dislike Utah.  The most common phrases I hear are, "Ew, Utah has the worst weather," "Utah is a big bubble and you don't get to really live life," "Utah people think they know it all," "I never want to live here when I'm older."  I am surprised at how many bashes I get on Utah everyday.  Now I'm not trying to offend anyone at all.  That is not my point. I actually look up to people who have lived out of state and can stick up for their testimony and the church where ever they go. Most people in Utah are LDS so I don't have to stick up for my beliefs alot and i don't know if I'd be strong to do that if the situation arose.  I really admire those who do that.  So in my opinion editorial, I do hope that I may help others to see that Utah is a good place and not as bad as they think.  I understand that people have different tastes of where they like to live; but let's be more considerate to those who love it here. What do you guys think?

My life in a nutshell

I thought my first blog post would be easy to write, yet I am having the hardest time coming up with things to tell about myself.  My mind is a blender ideas but immediately as my fingers touch the keys I can't remember a thing.  I am, however, really excited to start a blog!  I feel that writing in a journal is not my style, but that writing my emotions and feelings down in a blog will be just as good.
I love my life.  Of course, I have those days where nothing seems to be going right and I feel like the world is crumbling around me, but I've learned to stay positive in everything I do and somehow, someway, everything turns out alright.  I'm 19 years old and have six people in my family and am the oldest of 4 kids. When I was little I criticized my parents as using me as the guinee pig of the four children but now I can honestly say that I love being the oldest. I absolutely love my family. I play the violin and I LOVE the piano! I've been playing it since I was 5 and it's something I hold close to my heart.  Not only do I love music, but on the flip-side, I love sports (my new NFL app on my i-touch is my favorite.)! I can play most sports but I'm excellent at basketball. If anyone wants to play just let me know! ;)  I'm also not a picky person and I'm up for all new kinds of adventures!  I love to ski, water-ski, hike, hang with friends, and do random, fun, spur-of-the-moment things with my peeps.
My future is still a blur.  I know that I want to be a stay at home mom and tend the kids but I am far from that!  I am only in college and still haven't declared my major yet. I used to have Nursing as my major but I've recently changed that because I faint when I see blood. :S Now I am looking into being a Child Life Specialist.  Eventually I'd like to get married and have a few kids of my own.  I have a plan that I'd like this to happen in 4 years but you never know how and when it will happen until it does. Some say the future scares them, but I'm excited! Bring it on :)
